American Camp Association New York

Awards

The Tri-State CAMP Conference award is given every year to the individual or organization that exhibits the most commitment and dedication to the region. The award recipient must demonstrate personal integrity and noteworthy contribution to the advancement of camping.

The 2012 Tri State CAMP Conference award winner--Peter Shifrin

Peter has been involved with technology from a very early age.  From the Apple in kindergarten through the dot com boom to the latest tablet, he has worked with it all.

Peter has been associated with camp for almost as long.  First at Robin Hood Country Day on Long Island and then nine years as camper at Echo Lake in Warrensburg, NY, starting at just seven years old.  After three years on staff at Echo Lake, including starting the camp’s very first summer blog in 1996, Peter took a small break from camping.

Working at an IT consulting firm in New York City exposed him to a broad range of IT projects including the Times Square Millennium Ball Drop, an internet enabled Burger King and an appearance on Tech TV.

In October of 2000 as Horizon Camps was expanding, Peter joined as a full time IT director, a first in the camping industry.  Since then, Peter has pushed Horizon Camps forward in all manner of technology.  He has now been with Horizon Camps for 12 years. Peter has been a tri-state volunteer since 1999 and an occasional presenter.

Peter lives in White Plains, NY with his wife Cori (a 3rd generation Starlight camper), their two-year-old son Ethan and Jack the dog.  Cori and Peter constantly argue about which sleep-away camp Ethan will attend.

Thank you to Presentation Multimedia Inc. for putting together the Tri-State CAMP Conference Award Video.
