Bank Street Summer Camp
I am a private tutor, aspiring author, and educator living in New York City. My most recent experience working as an educator within a school building occurred in the 2010-11 school year. I served as a Physical Education Instructor at The Bank Street School for Children. I have been the Co-Head of the Sports Program at Bank Street Summer Camp for 2010 and 2011. Prior to that I was the Dean of Students at Achievement First Crown Heights Elementary School from 2007-09. AFCHES is a Charter School which serves primarily African American, West Indian, and Hispanic students. It is located in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn. I began my career in education teaching 3rd grade at The Dalton School from 2004-2007. Dalton is a Private School which serves Caucasian, African American, Hispanic, Asian and various other students who identify themselves by ethnicity, nationality or religion. It is located in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. My experiences as an African American man, working at these institutions as both teacher and administrator, and prior to that, attending them as a student, have insured that the myriad questions related to diversity could never be far from my mind. I look forward to adding my experiences and opinions to the effort that is being made to insure that issues of diversity will be addressed in healthy, supportive, and sustainable ways in educational institutions. I can only foresee this effort having long lasting positive results for teachers, students, administrators and families.
